It was extremely noisy in the restaurant. The restaurant was very cold, due to air coming the front door every time it opened and closed. My husband didn't really care for his chicken parmesan, but the entre I had, a pesto chicken and broccoli dish was really good. The service was amazing, food incredible and belly dancing was entertaining. When we went it was for my dad's birthday, and we had an age range of 16 months the 57 years, everyone loved it!
We will def going back again! Lot's of construction noise due to work going on above the restaurant. Service was lackadaisical, which was disappointing because this was a birthday party for my wife. Took forever to order, even though there were not many people there. Worst part is they screwed up my bill. Admittedly it was a little more difficult because I used 2 debit cards and an American Express card to pay the tab.
Way too much pain and grief! Told another couple who came in it was. Then it was too late to get happy hour prices for our wine. I had to ask the waiter a second time for my wine. Ordered the fish and steak. Potatoes and green beans were luke warm at best. The fish and steak were wonderful. Had been here once before with a work group and everything was great, so maybe they were having a bad day? I was able to make reservations on Open Table an hour before we arrived which was great. We had a wonderful corner booth which would have seated 6 comfortably so it was very nice for the four of us.
They have a happy hour from 4 to 6 that we were in time for and we would definitely go back for that We had the brushetta pizza and barbeque chicken pizza. Both were excellent and we had leftovers. Our waitress was very attentive and very pleasant. Otherwise good. Their small plates and toasts are a definite highlight. As is the very clever ability to buy half or quarter priced bottles of open wine. The creativity is clearly in the appetizers, as the entrees were underseasoned and not as inventive. Nice atmosphere but average service and food at best.
My wife had a filet and i had the pork chops. Both meals were just average. Barbette served tasty food in your typical snobby French restaurant portions. Even after an app, main course, and desert we were still hungry. Nice portion sizes. Moderate prices for downtown Minneapolis. Valet parking a bit expensive. The food is still great and we look forward to returning after the remodel to see the improvements. Nothing fancy, but we had an enjoyable time and would return if we were I that part of the city.

Food and service were outstanding as always. We were pleasantly surprised! I don't particularly enjoy seafood, but the Seared Yellowfin Tuna was fantastic, and my wife's Halibut was perfect. They had a great beer list, the service was superb, and we will definitely be returning! Prices weren't for the faint of heart, but I felt like it was worth every penny! Made celebrating a couple of Birthday's more than fun!! I enjoy that they serve not only traditional Mexican fare, but also some non-traditional Mexican fare.
Trust me, there's not a bad item on the menu. For a refreshing surprise, be sure to try their Kalua Colada. You will not be disappointed! Com 4. The food was good and arrived at an appropriate time after we ordered. Only negative was they did not have the wine we ordered, but our server was very apologetic. We would definitely go again.
My friend had the short rib philly of which she felt the seasoning was missing. The resturent was to dark, the music was horrble, and the seating was uncomfortable and impartical. I will not return. Our waitress was quite forward and therefore coming off a bit rude. Which was quite embarrassing for me to invite friends and family and be treated in such a manner. Spaghetti with meat sauce did not have much flavor.
Shrimp Florentine was good with great garlic flavor. Had a great time celebrating my son's birthday. The atmophere was amazing and the waiter was awesome. They seem to be very busy each time I have been there so I know to expect that. Food is always excellent. Guess I need to get glasses. Best sweet potato fries and onion rings.
Burgers are a bit pricy, but they are worth it. Paid for coffee but only got one cup, no refills. Food was great as usual. I asked when making the reservation that we have a nice table. When we were seated, they put us right by the service station. Thankfully, my mother insisted we be sat somewhere with less traffic so we could have a nice, enjoyable meal. The server seemed annoyed. The food was good, but with strange pairings. Overall a good meal, but I would probably pick other restaurants in Minneapolis over this place. The wine list was priced extremely well and the waitstaff was attentive and friendly.
We got a later reservation and found that we were two of very few customers at that time. Instead of being romantic it was a little awkward as they didn't have music or anything playing. It was incredibly quiet so all we heard was our own conversation and conversations in the kitchen. It felt a little strange. Overall, the food and service was good Large spring roll, perhaps just a tad too much noodle action, but tasty all-around. Good service. Somewhat dark in the bar area. I hadn't been here maybe since because I ended up finding better Thai spots.
But after the other night, I think I'll be back. A little late getting seated for our reservation but they did come around with appetizers for those of us waiting. Order a variety of small and large plates served "tapas style" arriving in no particular order and some fun exotic drinks.
Then sit back and relax. All of the dishes we ordered were authentically rendered, and well spiced. As noted elsewhere portion sizes are smaller, but the quality more than makes up for it. The dum pukht dishes are by fa the best in the twin cities. Highly recommended for those who love Indian food. My husband's steak was very good but the scallops I had were overcooked. The chocolate molten lava cake that was brought out for desert was cold, and the tuna that others in the party had ordered was flavorless.
Overall disappointed. Not sure if they had an off night, but the tasting menu took a long time between courses. For some reason it's one of the few restaurants where I don't feel heavy at the end of the meal. I don't know if it's the oils they use, or just better quality ingredients, but it feels like eating at home, only better! Croix Tr. Lots of families eat here so it wasn't very romantic, at 8pm on a Saturday night it felt like we were at a daycare center!
I ordered a pasta dish, which was good, but you didn't get any bread with it. Be prepared to practically sit in the next table's lap! We had a 4 person table next to us and they put 5 people in it and 2 were very large so one of them was partially sitting at our table! I understand wanting to seat as many people as possible but its getting ridiculous. The lobster gnocchi and the sea bass were delicious. I highly recommend either option! Not much else to say except thanks for the excellent food!!! The service took a little longer than anticipated and seemed a bit cold shoulder-ish.
We ordered steak salads - kitchen forgot a couple of menu ingrediants and steak very tough. We need a good restaurant in our area but this isn't it. The desserts - a flourless chocolate cake and a chocolate creme brulee - were spectacular and the highlight of the meal. The cocktails were also creative and delicious. The margaritas were tasty. The table side guacamole merely stirred at the table was more onion than avocado. The beef in the fajita was very tough and should have been more flavorful.
The tres leches cake was a disappointment since it was obviously not made on site and neither the cake nor the frosting were anything special. We dine out a lot and were excited to try a new place but were ultimately disappointed. Flavor profiles were interesting and the prices were very reasonable. Service was "immature"- our server seemed new to the business, although he was very friendly, enthusiastic and had a great smile. They were spot on!
Just as delicious as we all remembered! The service was excellent as well, thanks to Bryce. Thank you Figlio for coming back into our lives. Please don't leave us again. Was very pleasantly surprised. Food and service were great. The only problem was that I was too full for desert!

Our waitress was really on top of things before, during, and after our meal! Love the Thursday night specials even though we did not all order from that menu. Keep up the good work, love having you in the neighborhood. Perhaps I just had higher expectations of what it would be like. It was not great. It was expensive. I am a college student; I don't have tons of cash to be taking my girlfriend out to expensive places. My husband and I were there for lunch several months ago and loved it. Because it is only opened on Thursdays for dinner, it took me quite a while to get back at night.

Great mocktails as well. The large plates are a gourmet dinning dream, without being "over the top" on dollops and drizzles. We had the Buttermilk marinaded Chicken and the fish, and loved both. The scene is fun and energetic-- feels like a Big Girl City Place! The wait staff are excellent. We will make more of an effort to think of them on Thursday evenings. They will be open several additional nights each week in Dec. The salad at the table was great, but wished I had remembered to ask for dressing on the side, as there was way too much dressing..
The warm cream cheese on the inside of the hash browns was the best. I had the beef tip appetizer and it was perfect for me after all the salad and hash browns. Loved the combo of the beef with the pea pods, very fresh. Wished the server had put the leftover sauce in my to-go box, because it was awesome. Views of golf course. We are both pretty picky eaters and our waitress accommodated everything! She was very pleasant and friendly. The food, as always, was fantastic. We will be back.
Wait staff very friendly and helpful. Be sure to make a reservation on Saturday night. I was looking forward to visiting the Happy Gnome after hearing about it and the great beer selection they have. They do have an excellent selection of craft brews but they are expensive. If I was only commenting on the bar I would give them a good rating, excellent on selection and fair on price.
But this review is about the restaurant. We were seated by a hostess who didn't have a clue when it comes to customer service. Our food was tasty but served lukewarm. The wait staff seemed harried though their were empty tables near us.
We won't be back. The food was amazing There wasn't a single thing that we didn't love. The tartare as a starter was a wonderful blend of flavors, sights, and textures. The tater tot hot dish is a must It is not what you think it is - it is a deconstructed version and the "tater tots" are really more like Spanish croquettes filled with this amazing porcini cream. It exceeded my expectations! The choices on the menu were outstanding and everything we tried was delicious and the presentations were really nice.
Definitely will go back. The bloody homer was delicious! The service was excellent, the staff is very attentive and noticed the minute I was low or through with my drink. It is an old style supper club - great food and service. The filet mignon and walleye combination has been a favorite of ours and other couples with whom we've dined. We were able to be seated anyway. Views of the city are spectacular. Loved the revolving aspect. However service waz extremely slow. Took a long time for someone to take drink orders and then another long wait for our drinks. And then another long wait for orders to be taken and then another wait for our food.
Once food arrived it was barely warm. However the taste was good. Our server found out we were there for our anniversary and we were offered acomplimentary dessert. But we ultimately were charged for the dessert. I will not be going back. We celebrated a birthday and they had a neat custom of taking a picture of our small group and presenting a print in a little paper frame with their name on it. Food was great and service excellent.
Will return. The food was really good. I had the red tai clam chowder, lasagna and carrot cake. The chowder was wonderfully spicy. The waiter was attentive without being annoying. We will definitely go back. Only downside is it is on the outskirts of downtown, so remember to bring cash to make parking easier. The service is great when you're on a time schedule. Just what I have expected. It was dynamite!!! We go here to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, etc.
The food is fantastic - especially the chocolate cake - and we are always pleasantly surprised by the wonderful combinations of flavors. The wine was great; the ambiance was perfect; the food was outstanding; the chocolate covered strawberries were the perfect touch! Thank you. We will definately come again.
The food was awesome! Server was very good and recommended some dishes with medium spice that were good, not too hot. Wine glasses and martini glasse were very small, thus smaller pour. Overall, very good experience. Will come back again. It is an expensive resturant that serves food that is nothing special. The server let us know upfront that the bar was slammed and kitchen was running behind. I guess I found this odd for a Friday night as places are usually staffed to take care of this.
The wait was worth it as the food was great. Can't figure out how such a great restaurant with a highly skilled chef could be tucked away in the north woods of MN. It was fantastic in every way! We had a very romantic spot overlooking the lake. The staff we very helpful, prompt, and we thoroughly enjoyed the time there for dinner. I had requested a quiet, romantic table for our anniversary and they delivered- it was perfect. Our server was fast and attentive. The food was delicious! We had a great time. It was tastless chicken and vegatables that looked like it just had some soy sauce poured over it.
All the other food is great. Just get rid of the stir fry. Paul randy. Paul for a business lunch: moderately-priced menu, good food GREAT popovers and friendly, personal service. AND, Macy's pays for yourparking when you dine here!!

Lots of choices. Excellent good overall although the Tortilla soup was very salty this time. Nice location for our group of 8. We especially liked the steak for the main course and the chocolate pecan fondue dessert. It wouldn't be worth paying full price, however. If you aren't sure, I would recommend trying it on restaurant week. The ambiance is lovely. The staff is truly wonderful -- every single person! The food is very, very good and I love the nutritional information. They make it easy for us to "split" a menu item since let's face it, who really needs a full dinner at 9 p.
I'll be back! We went for Sunday brunch which begins serving at a. At that time there was only one other couple in the restaurant. There were enough servers but for whatever reason the food was very slow getting to the table. One would expect coffee to be ready immediately.

The bartender even came to our table asking us if we'd like a beverage or water while we were waiting. Our first visit was great. The service was good, the food was very good - overall very positive. This visit we were a little disappointed. The first table we were seated at bumped right up to the door to the kitchen and there were plenty of empty booths. We immediately asked to be moved - that was no problem. The food is great and my teenage children love the food and the fact that it has a foos ball table and is next to Tatters, a used clothing store.
The food is unique and delicious especially the steak. Happy hour prices are a great deal. We look forward to going back to sample more of the menu items, everything looked really good. We loved it. Every aspect of the dining experience was great. We will return for sure. Food superb, extensive wine list though we stuck to the familiar Cabernet Sauvignon, which at 45 dollars was one of their cheapest but delicious none the less. Steaks were tender and full of flavour. Can't comment on deserts as we were too full to try them!
Strib review this week was less than glowing, but this is a gem in the middle of the mall frenzy. Hadn't been there awhile and had forgotten how imaginative the menu is Ignore the uber-sophisticated Strib reviewer Our waitress was also delightful and fun. Thank you! Even more I love the Wine bar that I had my bday party in this year. Super fun crew and yummy food!
Sorry they are closing. You feel well taken care of! The mahi-mahi was so tender and juicy with the perfect amount of relish to compliment the flavor but not overpowering. The only part of the meal we were unimpressed with was the Oceanaire Hashbrowns. They had a nice kick, but were basically just hashbrowns. We celebrated our 39th wedding anniversary Saturday night. It could not have been better. The food and service were absolutely the best!
Also, it took a long time to get our check. It was difficult to catch any of the servers attention. They were very task oriented vs. Peter St St. My wife and I went for our anniversary, as we have leaned towards this restaurant to attend for these special occasions. I passed on the pickled pigs feet my favorite , if only because the rotating menu always seems to have something exquisite and new to tempt me.
This time I discovered Halibut cheeks with Manila clams and Portuguese blood sausage. Had a taste of my wife's Acorn Squash soup with potato gnocchi and Stilton Cheese. The waiter brought the soup out in a flask resembling a Saki server, then poured it over the gnocchi in the bowl. I was astounded as the flavors present progressively came over my taste buds one after another. If you haven't tried Picollo, you have to go! Each time we hoped it would be better.
It was not.
